County rejects annexation request

A request to annex 44 acres at the intersection of Ellis Road and Banks Road in unincorporated Fayette County has been denied by the Board of Commissioners.

The board voted 3-1-1 on Feb. 8 against the measure, which also would have rezoned the property to allow 162 townhomes/ condominiums to be built. Commissioner Steve Brown said such development would exacerbate traffic congestion.

Fayetteville Mayor Edward Johnson said his staff was capable of managing such growth.
