Panthers re-hire Hurney as GM

-

Marty Hurney will be calling the shots once again with the Panthers. Carolina re-hired Hurney as its general manager Wednesday, marking his second full-time stint as general manager. Hurney previously worked for the Panthers from 1998-2012, beginning as GM in 2002. He rejoined the Panthers last July as on an interim basis.

COO Tina Becker said Hurney did an “exceptional” job in helping the Panthers to an 11-5 season last year.

The Panthers reinstated Hurney as interim general manager last week after an NFL investigation found no wrongdoing into charges of harassment by his ex-wife.

“I have always felt a strong connection to this organization and viewed this job as one of the very best in the NFL because of the people here,” Hurney said.

The Panthers made three playoff appearances, won two NFC South titles, and played in two NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl under Hurney during his first tenure.

Colts: Andrew Luck delivered some good news to Indianapolis fans: He feels better and has ruled out additional surgery. And he’s eager to play football after spending the past 13 months rehabbing from shoulder surgery. If all goes well, the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback might return in time for the start of April’s offseason workouts.

Dolphins: Wide receiver Jarvis Landry was given a non-exclusive franchise tag after leading the NFL with 112 catches in 2017. The move by the Dolphins came on the first day teams could assign franchise tags. The tag’s value is expected to be about $16 million. Landry made $894,000 last season.

Eagles: Will promote Mike Groh from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator, and running backs coach Duce Staley, who also interviewed for the offensive coordinator position, will add assistant head coach to his title. Press Taylor will replace John DeFilippo as quarterbacks coach.

Titans: Kicker Ryan Succop agreed to terms on a multiyear contract extension. Succop scored a career-high 136 points in 2017. His 35 field goals and 42 attempts were also career highs.
