An armed robber climbed through a northeast Atlanta McDonald’s drive-thru window, rang up a Big Mac and a Coke and made off with the food as well as an unspecified amount of money, police told Channel 2 Action News.

Employees at the fast-food chain’s Cheshire Bridge Road location told police they were preparing breakfast when they saw the man “casually going about opening the register, removing cash,” Atlanta police Capt. Andrew Senzer said.

A startled employee reacted, and the robber pulled out a pistol, took an unspecified amount of money and left the restaurant through one of the doors, Senzer said.

Officers responded to the restaurant about 3:30 a.m. and reviewed surveillance footage.

That footage showed a 6-foot-2 man in dark clothing enter through the drivethru window and walk over to the register, Senzer said. Part of the man’s face was concealed with a mask or other article of clothing, according to police.

“The doors were locked,” Senzer said. “Apparently, the drive-thru window was not.”

Since September, at least three metro Atlanta McDonald’s have been hit in similar fashion.

A gunman climbed through the drive-thru window of a Hapeville McDonald’s on North Central Avenue about 3 a.m. Sept. 13 and shot an employee.

And about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 2, an armed robber ran past customers in line, climbed through the window of a DeKalb County McDonald’s on Wesley Chapel Road and made off with the cash register.
