Jets emerge as late suitors for DT Suh

-

Free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh tells Yahoo Sports the Jets have emerged as a serious contender for his services.

A source confirmed that the Jets have serious interest in signing Suh.

Suh, who was released by the Dolphins in a cost-cutting measure, said the Titans, Rams and Saints are also in the mix.

The Jets are searching for an impact player along the defensive line to pair with Leonard Williams after they released Muhammad Wilkerson in a cost-cutting move in February.

Last season, Suh, 31, had 4.5 sacks, 48 tackles, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups. Suh has yet to visit the Jets’ facility and Yahoo Sports says he’s at his offseason home in Portland, Ore., mulling over his options.

Meantime, the Jets agreed to terms with Terrelle Pryor on Thursday, creating more competition in a crowded field at wide receiver.

Pryor, 28, played nine games for Washington in 2017 before undergoing ankle surgery. He told reporters he suffered the injury in Week 2.

Pryor, who played quarterback at Ohio State, had a breakout season in 2016 with the Browns. He caught 77 passes for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns.

Chargers: Defensive lineman Corey Liuget will be suspended without pay for the first four games of the upcoming season for a violation of the NFL’s doping policy. Liuget says he takes “full responsibility” for the violation. During his offseason training program, the veteran lineman says he “placed my trust in someone who, in hindsight, was not wellversed in the NFL’s policy on banned substances.”

Liuget has been a fixture on the Chargers’ defensive line since 2011. He started 12 games last season, getting 21 tackles and 1½ sacks. Liuget signed a five-year, $58.5 million extension in 2015.

Eagles: Authorities in Houston issued a warrant for the arrest of three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett, who is accused of injuring a paraplegic woman as he tried get onto the field at the 2017 Super Bowl to celebrate with his brother.

The Harris County district attorney’s office said a grand jury indicted the 32-year-old Bennett, acquired earlier this month by the Eagles, on a felony count of injury to the elderly.

Bennett was a spectator at the game at NRG Stadium in Houston in February 2017 when he tried to get onto the field immediately afterward to see his brother, Martellus Bennett, a tight end for the Patriots at the time. Prosecutors allege he pushed through security personnel, including a 66-year-old woman in a wheelchair who was a stadium employee and who had told him to use a different entrance to access the field. Bennett is also accused of pushing two other people, including another woman, and ignoring a request by a police officer to stop as he made his way onto the field.

Cowboys: Free-agent wide receiver Allen Hurns agreed to a two-year deal, three days after he was released by the Jaguars. Hurns initially signed as an undrafted rookie out of Miami in 2014. He got a $40 million, fouryear contract extension after the 2015 season, when he had 64 catches for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns in 15 games, but has since been hampered by injuries.

Packers: Tramon Williams is returning to help replenish the Green Bay secondary. The 11-year veteran spent the first eight seasons of his career in Green Bay, intercepting 28 passes in 127 games including 99 starts.

Dolphins: Signed backup quarterback Brock Osweiler to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports.

Browns: Signed free agent cornerback E.J. Gaines, the latest addition to a revamped secondary. Gaines played last season for the Bills.
