Bruised ankle finishes season for Schroder
Injury left Hawks with just one point guard available.
‘Everybody wants to be a point guard. Maybe we will let the big guys be a point guard for a while. We’ll get through.’

Hawks point guard Dennis Schroder will miss the rest of the season with a bone bruise in his left ankle, the team announced Friday.
Schroder suffered the injury during a game at Golden State a week ago. The Hawks said an MRI performed Friday revealed a medial bone bruise and a Grade 2 sprain.
The team said Schroder’s recovery time will be two to four weeks. Entering Friday, the Hawks had seven games remaining on the their schedule, which concludes April 10.
Schroder, 24, started 67 games this season with team-leading averages of 19.4 points and 6.2 assists per game. He had been the focal point of the offense for the first time in his career after Paul Millsap and Dwight Howard departed.
The Hawks selected Schroder
with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2013 draft. This season was Schroder’s first playing under the four-year, $70 million contract extension he signed in October 2016.
With Schroder out and Josh Magette at Erie of the G League for a playoff game, the Hawks had one true point guard (Isaiah Taylor) available Friday night at home against the 76ers.
“Our wings will get a chance,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “Everybody wants to be a point guard. Maybe we will let the big guys be a point guard for a while. We’ll get through.”
