3 questions with the best group of the day

-

The best grouping of the opening round of the 82nd Masters on Thursday was the threesome of Patrick Reed, Adam Hadwin and Charley Hoffman. They all shot matching 3-under 69s.

Question: Was the group aware coming in how well you were all playing?

Patrick Reed: “We were because we saw the leaderboard while we were playing, but it’s a long tournament and you know that any time you shoot anywhere between 2 to 4 under par, especially on an opening round at Augusta, it’s always a great start. That was kind of my goal today, to come out, try to shoot anywhere between 2 and 4 and hope to, if you have a chance to shoot better than that, of course go and do that, but anywhere in between 2 and 4 I would have been pleased.”

Question: What was the best part of your round?

Adam Hadwin: “Off the tee, I mean I wasn’t perfect off the tee, but I was always in a position to get to the green, which I think is key out here. And I put myself in a lot of good spots on the greens. Speed control was really good kind of throughout the day. The gun kind of went off in the hand there on 18, but other than that it was just a really good solid day, made a few good putts when I needed to and here I am under par.”

Question: You’ve been here before after the first round, what do you take away from the previous experience?

Charley Hoffman: “I’m happy. As I say, you want to put yourself in position after the first round. You can’t win the tournament, I’ve proven that, after the first round and I just want to give myself a chance on Saturday and Sunday like I have in the past and I promise you I’ll perform a little better this time around. I’ve learned a lot and I can’t wait to get an opportunity and do it again.”
