Braves not rushing Camargo back

The Braves haven’t set a return date for third baseman Johan Camargo, though they’re satisfied with his rehab progress.

Camargo strained his left oblique March 13 and was placed on the disabled list March 26. The utilityman was expected back as early as April 6. But Ryan Flaherty’s strong play in his absence bought the Braves more patience.

Flaherty, 31, has slashed .366/.458/.463 while providing steady defense at third. His production made it easier to leave Camargo behind as the Braves embarked on a road trip in Denver, Washington and Chicago. Camargo played a pair of rehab games with High-A Florida before joining Triple-A Gwinnett. He homered in three of five games with the Stripers entering Monday, tied for the International League lead.

Flowers update: Catcher Tyler Flowers is slightly ahead of schedule in his recovery from a left oblique strain. Flowers left the March 29 opening-day game after pulling an oblique muscle during his first at-bat of the year. He was placed on the disabled list the following day.

Flowers has appeared in two games since March 19, an exhibition and the season opener, after being slowed by a groin injury toward the end of spring training. He had surgery to repair a damaged forearm and wrist in October.

“I watched some video of him swinging in the cage yesterday,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “He feels good.” Snitker wouldn’t rule out Flowers joining the team on its next road trip, which opens Monday in Cincinnati.
