Officials correct license problems

Officials in S pal d ing County said Tuesday they have corrected driving records that were erroneously affected by an “internal user error.”

About 600 driver’s licenses were suspended accidentally as a result of the mistake, according to a statement from Spalding County State Court Judge Josh Thacker.

“The errant submissions were quickly removed and the driving records corrected,” Thacker said.

The error occurred April 3, about a month after the state court clerk’s office began using new software to electronically submit traffic ticket dispositions to the state Department of Driver Services, according to the statement. Previously, the ticket dispositions were mailed to the DDS.

The error resulted in the accidental resubmission of ticket dispositions covering 20 years, officials said.

“DDS security protocols blocked 70% of the citation dispositions from being added to the driving records, as those were duplicates or non-reportable citation dispositions,” Thacker said in the statement.

The clerk’s office has scheduled additional training, is putting in new procedures and is “working diligently to ensure future accuracy in our record submissions,” according to the statement.

People can call the DDS automated phone line (404657-9300) to check the status of their license. Also, you can check your license status at www.dds.georgia.gov.
