Buyer’s Edge Where can I find it?
For years Kroger has provided the Kroger brand candied dill strip pickles for our family potato salad. Local stores don’t carry them. Did Kroger stop making them? Is there another supplier, and can I order them? William Stillions, Canton
Kroger no longer offers its candied dill strip pickles, but you might try Sechler’s candied sweet dill strips. You can order these from Walmart.com. Although you have to order a pack of six 16-ounce jars for $34.67, the shipping is free. You also can order from the source, and get a fourpack for $21 through store.sechlerspickles.com. Sechler’s candied sweet dill strip pickles are sweetened with pure sugar and flavored with dill. Where can I find jars of Ortiz tuna in organic olive oil? Imported from Spain, this white meat tuna comes packed in organic olive oil, and it’s available in 7.76-ounce glass jars for $15.99 at Whole Foods Market, 2111 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, 404634-7800. My spouse and I were born and grew up in New York. We were exposed to many different ethnic foods, and loved most of them. We came to Georgia 12 years ago and found that Canton, where we live, seemed to be unable to get some of the delicacies we grew up with. Since Publix is about a mile from us, I have spoken with the managers several times about what we are looking for. I have also emailed Publix offices in Florida. All have promised to get these products for us. The bottom line is that they are unable to get us Ba-Tampte bread and butter pickles and also pickled tomatoes. It seems that their distributor does not get them. I have checked the other surrounding supermarkets and they also do not carry them. Can you help us get these wonderful goodies? Bernice, the folks at Publix are, whenever possible, excellent about ordering special items for customers. Unfortunately, as you found out, there are limitations. I spoke to someone in the Publix merchandising office and found out that those two BaTampte items are unavailable to the store. The good news, however, is that I found your products, but you’ll have to travel more than a mile. Wander toward the back of the store, to the refrigerated kosher section, of Kroger, 2205 Lavista Road, Atlanta, 404633-8694. Here you’ll find both of your Brooklyn favorites, BaTampte bread and butter pickles and pickled tomatoes. Each 32-ounce jar costs $5.49. Is the Dentyne gum in the little red package still available? It’s been ages since I’ve seen this cinnamon gum in stores. I’d love to be able to find it again. Thank you. B. Kline, Acworth
You can, once again, “Taste the tingle,” with this nostalgic cinnamon-flavored gum, which has been around since 1899. Although it disappeared for a while, it’s now back.
