New item-Dunwoody

Bob Mohalley thinks a new roundabout could lead to more accidents.

“Dunwoody added a roundabout at the intersection of Saffron Drive and North Peachtree Road near Mt. Vernon Road. There’s an existing utility pole on the corner that’s inches away from my truck as one goes through the roundabout. This is a bad accident waiting to happen,” he wrote.

We sent the item to Dunwoody and got a timely response.

“The purpose of the traffic calming devices placed along that section of North Peachtree Road are intended to reduce the speed of vehicles. The speed limit is 25 mph on the road. There’s enough clearance for passenger vehicles to drive along the road at a safe speed and not have any issues with clearance of the utility pole,” wrote city Communications Director Bob Mullen.

“Additionally, the island is tapered and designed to be mountable by larger vehicles, permitting the tires of large trucks and buses to go over top of the island.

The city took before and after measurements of the speed of vehicles in the area, and the traffic calming devices placed along that section North Peachtree Road have helped to reduce speeding vehicles,” Mullen added. New item-Cobb County

Tina Gallente is concerned over a site near a busy biking trail.

“I really hope that you can help me, I do not know where else to turn. I live right off of Fontaine Road at EastWest Connector. My subdivision abuts on the East-West Connector which is directly across from the entrance to the Silver Comet Trail. The parking for the Silver Comet Trail is on Fontaine connected to my subdivi- sion’s entrance. This intersection is very high in accidents. It has become somewhat of a dump site,” Gallente wrote.

She said there are large car parts in the road and on the shoulder that have been from the accidents, pieces of plywood, downed trees on the side which were cut either by the county or the city and never removed.

We got a quick response back from Cobb County, which said the area had been cleaned up, thanks to the county’s parks and recreation department.
