FORSYTH COUNTY Engineering for Pilgrim Mill widening approved
Moreland Altobelli Associates Inc. has gotten the go-ahead from Forsyth County to begin construction engineering for the widening of Pilgrim Mill Road north of Cumming.
The Forsyth Board of Commissioners approved spending up to $299,968 for the work. About 1.7 miles of Pilgrim Mills to be widened to four lanes from two with a 20-foot raised median from Aquatic Circle to Freedom Parkway; and to three lanes from two with a center turn lane between Freedom and Holtzclaw Road, according to a Forsyth project map.
There also would be a 10-foot paved path on the north side of the road, and a 5-foot sidewalk on the south side. The map shows Pilgrim Mill Circle relocated to intersect with Pilgrim Mill Road about 600 feet east of its current location. Thebridge over Ga. 400 would be widened to seven lanes from the current three, with dual left-turn lanes to southbound Ga. 400 and a single left turn to northbound Ga. 400.
The $10 million project is to be started this year and completed in January 2020. Information: https://bit.ly/2KI4HLi

ALPHARETTA
City to create app for mobile devices
The Alpharetta City Council has given staff the go-ahead to finalize a contract with a technology provider to create an “ITsMyTown” app for mobile devices.
The branded app could alert residents to news and events; facilitate messages from the mayor and council members; provide a city directory, and advise users about essential city places and parks and 311 reporting, according to a proposal from ITsimple.
The company has offered to charge Alpharetta only $1 to set up and launch the app, and $1 per year in subscription fees the first two years, according to a staff report to the council. In years three and four, the support fee would be $3,600 per month. In subsequent years, the city would be offered a 25 percent discount off the list price for cities of the same population size.
Staff recommended a pilot program with ITsimple with an initial two-year contract period and three optional one-year extensions.
