Georgia’s most popular baby names for 2017

When it comes to baby names, Georgians know what they like. William and Ava reign again. In 2015, 2016 and now 2017, William and Ava were the most popular names in the state, according to the Social Security Administra­tion, which released new data on applicatio­ns for Social Security cards for children recently.

Here are the top 10 most popular girls names in Georgia:

1. Ava

2. Olivia

3. Emma

4. Isabella

5. Charlotte

6. Madison

7. Abigail

8. Harper

9. Amelia

10. Elizabeth

Fastest rising girls name on the list include Piper, up 25 spots; Brooklyn and Nevaeh, up 19 spots; Autumn, up 18 spots, and Mariah, up 16 spots.

Girls’ names new to the list this year (and include names not on the 2016 list at all — they are either new to top 100 or back on the list) include the following: Luna, Mila, Nova, Ivy, Everly and Alice.

According to the Social Security Administra­tion, which released data on applicatio­ns for Social Security cards for children, 685 children were named William and 667 were named Ava in 2016.

And here are the top 10 boys names in Georgia:

2. Noah

3. Mason

4. Elijah

5. James

6. Liam

7. Aiden

8. Logan

9. Carter

10. Jacob

Boys names that are new to the top 100 list this year and were not on the 2016 list at all include Ian at No. 77 spot, Braxton at the No. 81 spot and Gavin at the No. 91 spot.
