It may be smart to have a backup plan for outdoor Memorial Day weekend activities.

“It’s going to be a wet Memorial Day weekend,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said. “There’s a very likely chance of showers and some storms through Monday. We’re not going to get out of this wet pattern for the next several days.”

Another surge of tropical moisture is headed for the East Coast, meaning North Georgia could see more wet weather.

Channel 2 chief meteorologist Glenn Burns predicts the tropical disturbance will head north

through Alabama, drenching Georgia in the process. The area of tropical moisture now has an 80 percent chance of developing into a tropical depression, which will only increase rain amounts.

Temperatures should be in the 70s and low 80s through the weekend, according to Channel 2.

For those leaving town, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is adding guest relations staff and opening security checkpoints early to accommodate an expected 1.7 million passengers this weekend.

AAA and traffic app Waze have determined the worst travel times in Atlanta during the three-day weekend: today between 3-5 p.m., Saturday between noon and 2 p.m., Sunday between 2-4 p.m., and Monday between 2-4 p.m.
