Where to celebrate Memorial Day

- By Mitchell Northam Mitchell.Northam@ajc.com

Memorial Day weekend means different things to different people.

For some, it’s the first sign of summer, and time to break out the grill and your favorite red, white and blue T-shirt. For others, it’s a time of remembrance and reflection, for those who died while serving in the military.

However you celebrate Memorial Day, there are several events in north Fulton County to help you do that.

Milton Memorial Day Ceremony: On Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Milton will come to together at Freedom Park. The public is invited. The Milton Public Safety Color Guard will present the colors, Bob Kraus will play bagpipes and Jordan Thorne will sing “God Bless America.”

Roswell Remembers Memorial Day Ceremony: Called the “largest Memorial Day ceremony in Georgia,” this event begins at 11 a.m. on Monday at City Hall in Roswell. Displays for the program will open at 10 a.m. George Lingerfelt, a retired U.S. Army sergeant, will be the keynote speaker. The event will also feature a 21-gun salute. The program will conclude at 12:30 p.m., but residents are invited to stick around for a picnic — barbecue can be purchased on-site — and a free concert by The Chuck Nation Band.

Alpharetta Arts Street Fest: This event runs Saturday through Monday in downtown Alpharetta. Admission is free, but art will be for sale.
