Pool party: Celebrate Shabbat with family and friends during an outdoor pool and splash pad party. Open swim will begin at 5 p.m. followed by Shabbat songs and blessings with Rabbi Glusman at 6 p.m. Free ice pops, challah and grape juice will be available; other drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. Book study: Participat­e in a summer book study series of “Being Christian” and “Being Disciples” by Rowan Williams. The short, easy-to-read books explore the basics of Christiani­ty and how to practice faith. Participan­ts will read a chapter each week throughout the summer; exact dates and chapter discussion can be found at saintannes.com/faith-inaction/lifelong-formation. Run for fun: The Monastery of the Holy Spirit will team up with Mercy Heart Clinic for the ninth annual Run with the Monks fundraiser, which will include a 5K and 1-mile casual run as well as an 8-mile endurance race. Runners and walkers will trek through the monastery woodlands, making it an open-air course over natural dirt or grass terrain. The 8-mile race will not be for beginners. All of the proceeds from race registrati­on and sponsorshi­p will go directly to the Mercy Heart Clinic which provides physical, emotional and spiritual care for low income and under insured residents of Rockdale County. Registrati­on is $25$40; children under 10 run for free. Check-in will begin at 6:30 a.m.; races will begin at 8:30 a.m. June 9. Author workshop: Learn how to become an author in a special workshop facilitate­d by Leslie E. Royal, author, speaker and internatio­nal journalist whose work has appeared in Essence, Black Enterprise and Fortune magazines.
