What’s not working around metro Atlanta

- JOHN THOMPSON FOR THE AJC

Update: Barrow County

In early May, we told you about Tom Jackson’s concern over a time-challenged traffic light in Barrow County. “The traffic light on Ga. Highway 316 at Ga. Highway 211 in Barrow County has not been traffic-sensitive for some months now. It holds green on the cross road, Hwy. 211 for long periods of time when there’s no traffic coming at all, backing traffic up on Hwy. 316. Surely someone in DOT has seen this by now and could have taken steps to fix it,” he wrote. We got an update from the DOT. “That intersection is part of a signal upgrade project, we will continue to work with the contractor now that weather is working with us, to get the deduction loops in the roadway that aid in the timing of the light,” said DOT spokeswoman Natalie Dale.

Update: Atlanta

In February, we told you Linda Brenner’s concern over a leak. “One block up from our house, at the corner of Cumberland Road and Cumberland Circle in Morningside, a hydrant has been leaking for going on two years now. We have called five times to report it and have been told it’s on a ‘list’ to be resolved. The water flow is substantial enough that it pools at the bottom of Cumberland Road and Monroe, creating a large mass of ice in cold weather and mud and muck at other times,” she wrote. City officials said that their rapid response unit inspected this location and have processed the repair request and have scheduled the repair.

Update: Atlanta

In February, we told you about David Jenkins’ plight at Walker Terrace. “Once again I need your help. Last after autumn many months of begging the city to repair two damaged places and remove metal plates on Walker Terrace in Midtown, I turned to you for help. Your notice in the AJC got action, for which all of us on Walker Terrace are grateful,” Jenkins said. But, Jenkins added, only a month after those repairs, the city dug up another section of sidewalk and street - only a few feet from one of the previous metal plates - to do more repairs.
