Grammy-winning singer to perform in Sandy Springs

Sandy Springs is bringing a little blues to its summer lineup at Byers Theater.

Grammy-winning singer Taj Mahal and his band, “Taj Mahal Trio” will be performing at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center on Sept. 8.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets went on sale last week, rang- ing in price from $42 to $62 per person. Tickets can be bought on the box office website for City Springs.

Henry Saint Clair Fredericks, also known as Taj Mahal, is the 76-year- old front man for the band. He’s been working as an artist since the 1960s and has collaborat­edwith the likes of the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and John Mayer.

Taj Mahal has taken home the Grammy Award for Best Contempora­ry Blues Album three times, in 1997, 2000 and most recently in 2018 for “Taj Mo.”

The City Springs website describes Taj Mahal’s music as blues with an “infusion of exotic sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and South Pacific.” He is a songwriter and guitarist, who can also play the keys and banjo.

Also in the trio is drummer Kester Smith and bassist Bill Rich.
