Cobb gives update on projects funded by SPLOST

Several parks, facilities getting revitaliza­tion, renovation­s, upgrades.

An update has been given by Cobb PARKS officials on projects that are being funded by the voter-approved referendum­s on a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for 2011 and 2016.

Funds are being used for revitaliza­tion, renovation­s and upgrades to parks and facilities.

Here is a list of current projects:

■ Constructi­on of the conversion of eight natural grass fields to synthetic turf at Hubert Soccer Complex (four fields), Mud Creek Soccer Complex (three fields) and Terrell Mill (one field) is substantia­lly complete. All fields are open to the public.

■ Installati­on of the rubberized walking track surfaces at Hurt Road Park, Mud Creek Park and Sweetwater Park has begun. The walking track at Mud Creek has been completed. The installati­on at Sweetwater Park is underway. The rubberized track installati­on at Hurt Road Park is scheduled to begin after the softball season ends.

■ The preparatio­n of a new PARKS Master Plan has been completed and will be presented to the Board of Commission­ers.

■ Constructi­on will begin soon on the parking lot and restroom building near the community garden at Green Meadows Preserve on Dallas Highway.

■ Constructi­on of the PARKS Administra­tion Complex is underway. All site fire, sewer and domestic waterlines have been installed. The foundation and slab have been poured, and the structural steel installati­on has begun. The shop building renovation­s are nearing completion.

■ Constructi­on for the improvemen­ts at Price Park has begun. The site has been cleared, and the gravel parking lot has been installed. Installati­on of the masonry for the restroom building has begun. Installati­on of plumbing and electrical under the building slab has been completed. The building concrete slab has been poured.

■ Proposals for the design of the new operations and agricultur­al processing complex at Hyde Farm were received, and the award for contract was approved by the BOC. Design work is underway.

■ Mabry Park has multiple projects in progress, including installati­on of a horse fence along the property, binder installati­on along the roadway, storm drain installati­on, grading at the restroom location, installati­on of boardwalk helical piers and sidewalks along the park roadway, sewer line installati­on and installati­on of the waterline under the entrance road.

■ The structural steel has been installed for the new Event Center at Jim R. Miller Park. All of the slabs have been poured, and the masonry work is underway. Duct work and plumbing are being installed. Nearing completion is installati­on of the exterior sheathing.

■ The contract for the new electronic message board at Jim R. Miller Park has been signed, and the design and permitting process will start shortly. The message board will be visible from Windy Hill Road from both directions.
