Soroka quickly sent back to DL

Mike Soroka just came off his first disabled list stint. He’ll now experience his second.

The Braves placed their prized 20-year-old righty on the 10-day DL Friday with right shoulder inflammation, the same reason he was sidelined before returning against the Mets on June 13.

Soroka made two starts since he was activated. He carried a no-hitter into the seventh against the Mets, but was tagged for four runs in 4⅔ innings against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. His velocity had dipped into the low-90s later in that outing.

He likely was placed on the DL for precautionary reasons, as he was before.

The Braves promoted utilityman Danny Santana to fill Soroka’s spot. Santana has hit .279 with an .839 OPS in 54 games with Triple-A Gwinnett. He has added 11 homers, already a careerhigh at any level.

Acuna set for rehab: Braves top prospect Ronald Acuna was scheduled to begin his rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A Gwinnett, the team announced.

The outfielder has been on the disabled list since May 28 after suffering a mild leftknee ACL sprain and lower back contusion while running through first base in Boston. The Braves have taken a conservative approach through their 20-year-old’s DL stint. Among the reasons: The team knows he can’t go less than 100 percent, so it needed to be fully confident in his health before sending him back into game action.

Acuna was rehabbing in Florida while the Braves were in Toronto this week. He amped up his agility testing last weekend.

“He’s progressing really well,” manager Brian Snitker said Thursday. “I mean, we’re looking at possibly getting him out (on a rehab assignment) at the end of the week. But he’s doing good, it’s like he’s passing (tests), he’s checking all the boxes down there.”

If Acuna’s rehab goes accordingly, he should rejoin the club next week. The Braves open a threegame series with the Reds on Monday, and have an offday Thursday before playing the Cardinals in St. Louis.
