- By Pamela Miller

A Cherokee County convenience store failed its follow-up inspection. Super A Food and Gas 2 in Ball Ground received a score of 68/U on June 21. Previous scores were 53/U on June 8, 2018 and 91/A on June 19, 2017.

The inspector noted these violations:

■ Food held past expiration for sale (two packages of cream cheese).

■ Food equipment is not being cleaned and sanitized as required.

■ Encrusted food buildup on potato punch, can opener.

■ Tongs used for self-service of pickled eggs had not be cleaned in several days according to the person in charge. Tongs must be cleaned and sanitized at least every four hours.

■ BBQ pork in the refrigerator was at 57 degrees. It was discarded. This cooler was not working and was discontinued to be used for food storage.

According to the report “all food preparation and service from this establishment must be discontinued until further notice. This includes breakfast, lunch and dinner service. The Person-in-Charge must satisfactorily demonstrate that the food service component can be operated as required and a re-inspection/follow-up must be conducted.”

The health department must grant approval for the food service operation to resume, but the convenience store was allowed to may remain open.
