A Roswell man was arrested and accused of stealing nearly $30,000 from a youth soccer nonprofit after he was fired, police confirmed.

Fahmi Elshami, the former executive director of the Georgia Rush soccer program in Milton, was arrested June 15 on two charges of felony theft, according to jail records.

Elshami was fired by the club in May and had his authorization to handle the nonprofit’s finances removed, Roswell police spokeswoman Lisa Holland told Channel 2 Ac t ion News. She said he then went to two Roswell banks to withdraw money before the authorization removal was processed.

“Within minutes, they had canceled him from the account, and then he was able to still go to the first bank and withdraw a large sum of money within that hour, so it didn’t catch up with the bank’s records that he wasn’t supposed to be on that account,” Holland told the news station.

Georgia Rush sent Channel 2 a statement regarding the incident: “Several weeks ago, Georgia Rush initiated a change in the professional leadership of the club and is currently searching for our next president. Our board, coaches and staff are continuing to serve more than 1,200 players and their families with a path to the pros for both boys and girls.”

Elshami bonded out of the Fulton County Jail for $10,000, jail records show.

He did not respond to a request for comment.
