■ River Ridge High’s Air Force Junior ROTC program earned the highest rating attainable — Exceeds Standards — in its recent annual unit evaluation. Maj. Marlon Ayers and Chief Master Sgt. Marvin Palmer were praised for creating a dynamic and supportive learning environmen­t with an excellent community outreach program. Under leadership of student Commander Cadet Col. Heather Acevedo-Ramirez and Deputy Commander Cadet Lt. Col. Kelsey Wessinger, the cadets did exceptiona­lly well in the event.

■ Thirty-five Woodstock High students competed at Georgia’s Technology Student Associatio­n State Conference, at which 2,700 Georgia students vied in technology and engineerin­g contests. Students who placed were invited to the National Conference; this year, Nationals were held in June in Atlanta. Also at the state conference, Woodstock High junior Greg Carroll was elected state vice president. Woodstock High students who moved on to Nationals: first place, biotechnol­ogy: L.T. Heber, Malachi Brewer, George Saunders, Walter Saunders and Drew Mathena; third place, animatroni­cs: Anna Mitchell, Colton Clanton, Sam Skillman, Cory Darko and Matthew Tressler.
