You can get screened for more than a dozen diseases and chronic health conditions at U.S. Rep. David Scott’s annual health fair in Jonesboro.
Scott, a Democrat representing the southern and western Atlanta suburbs, has held the health fair for 14 years, providing constituents with free medical services from area nonprofit groups and healthcare providers.
This year’s event will be Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mundy’s Mill High School in Jonesboro.
In addition to groups like the American Cancer Society and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Regional Office will have staff on site to perform services for veterans including post-traumatic stress disorder coun- seling, health eligibility benefits consultations and vision screenings.
Screenings cover diseases and conditions including:
■ Breast cancer
■ Prostate cancer
■ HIV/AIDS
■ Diabetes
■ Blood pressure
■ Asthma
■ Cholesterol
■ Mental health
■ Sickle cell
■ Vision
■ Glaucoma
You can preregister for the health fair at Scott’s official website. Scott’s district covers parts of Fulton, Cobb, Fayette, Clayton and Henry counties, as well as the entirety of Douglas County.
