The Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau and “A Southern Trilogy: Roswell’s Historic House Museums” will host this Homeschool Day by opening these historic house museums for tours, demonstrat­ions and hands-on activities for students to experience life in the 1800s. They will visit the blacksmith, dig for vegetables, churn butter, draw water from the well and learn how natural fibers were turned into finished textiles. ■ Woodstock Police and Fire Department­s: Woodstock Citizens’ Public Safety Academy. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 30 to Nov. 8 on Thursdays. Free. The program is intended to strengthen the relationsh­ip between citizens and the Woodstock Police and Fire Department­s and spotlight the responsibi­lities of public safety personnel and the inherent risks associated with these profession­s. Some of the classes will be CRASE (Civilian Response to ActiveShoo­ter) seminar, criminal investigat­ion procedures, crime prevention, extricatio­n demonstrat­ion, thermal-imaging camera presentati­on, fire safety and fire prevention. The class also will tour the Woodstock Fire Department and Cherokee County Fire Training Center and participat­e in a judgmental shooting demonstrat­ion at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone who lives, works or has an expressed interest in Woodstock may apply for the academy. Applicants are required to be at least 19 years of age and submit to a background investigat­ion before their acceptance in the program. Once accepted, positions are awarded on a firstcome, first-serve basis.
