Q&A on the News
Q: Why are most of the MARTA bus stops closed on Briarcliff Road? —James Sease, Atlanta
A: The bus stops are being closed as part of MARTA’s route changes Aug. 18, a spokesperson for MARTA told Q&A on the News.
Route 33 will no longer operate on Briarcliff Road between Clairmont and Shallowford roads. It will be renumbered to Route 133 and will operate from the Doraville MARTA rail station to the Northlake Mall area along Shallowford and Briarcliff roads.
Those marked with a red “bus stop closure” cover will go out of service on that date.
Q: In a recent AJC photo, why was Gwinnett County Commissioner Tommy Hunter sitting in Deputy County Administrator Phil Hoskins’ seat? —Michael Poynor, Atlanta
A: The camera angle makes it appear that Hunter is sitting in front of Hoskins’ nameplate during a commission meeting, but they were both sitting in their correct seats, Joe Sorenson, county communications director, told Q&A on the News in an email. The meeting was in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center.
“Not only is the angle of the photo extreme, but the dais is very wide from where the commissioners sit to where the nameplates are displayed,” he wrote. “The dais was built in the late 1980s to hold very long CRT monitors so that exaggerates the angle even more. Video and photos shot from the side will show a nameplate that is in front of someone else two to three seats away, depending on the angle.” Q&A on the News runs Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
