Redskins release veteran Scandrick

-

The Redskins made a surprise move three weeks into training camp, releasing CB Orlando Scandrick. He signed a two-year deal with Washington in March after being cut by Dallas and had been practicing with the first-team-defense. Coach Jay Gruden said the performance of several other players factored into the decision. “It had nothing to do with his play,” Gruden said. “It was more the rookies’ emergence, really.”

Browns: Free-agent WR Dez Bryant is set to visit the Browns, who said the threetime Pro Bowler, released by Dallas in April, will be at training camp Thursday.

Bears: LB Roquan Smith wore a smile on his face and a Chicago uniform for the first time since training camp started. The Bears got a first look at their firstround round draft pick, 30 days after hewas supposed to report for camp. Drafted No. 8 overall, the former Georgia Bulldog had been the last unsigned pick of the 2018 NFL draft. He settled on a four-year contract that guarantees $18.5 million and includes an$11.5 million signing bonus, a person familiar with the talks told The Associated Press.

Eagles: Carson Wentz expects to participate in 11-on-11 drills next week, but it’s uncertain whether he’ll be ready for the season opener. His goal since surgery last December to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee has been to be ready for that game, but “it’s no secret that it’s going to be close,” he said as the Eagles completed training camp.
