A $130 million residential project is officially underway in West Midtown.

Executives from The Allen Morris Company and Juneau Construction Company watched as an autographed, 3,000-pound wrecking ball smashed into an old hardware store during a groundbreaking ceremony for Star Metals Residences on Aug. 9. The 409-unit apartment rental building is part of the 4.75-acre Star Metals Atlanta mixed-use develop- ment, which will include a 14-story office tower, retail and restaurants.

The Residences building, located at 1050 Howell Mill Road near Northside Tavern, will include a high-end restaurant and retail, according to a press release. It is slated for completion in spring 2020.

Ground floor amenities are to include a dog wash area, a Uber drop-off room for residents and a resident library with fireplace. The Level 9 Rooftop will have a bar and lounge, a game room area and a pool terrace.

W. Allen Morris, chairman and CEO of The Allen Morris Company, said the develop- ment “enhances the beauty and will cherish the history of West Midtown Atlanta.” The project “will continue the transformation of West Midtown,” said Les Juneau, president of Juneau Construction Company.

The Residences are designed by Oppenheim Architecture and Dwell Design Studio, with interior design by Square Feet Studio.
