Atlanta’s 35th postmaster set to be sworn in on Friday
A new Atlanta postmaster will be sworn in this week.
Ashlea A. Meyer will take the official oath of office as the 35th Atlanta Postmaster on Friday, a news release said. She will oversee operations for about 1,400 employees who deliver to more than 500,000 addresses across 47 retail stations, branches and carrier units.
Meyer’s postal career began in 2001 as a letter carrier in Louisville, Kentucky. A few years later, she joined management as a customer service supervisor in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She has also been postmaster in Lafayette, Indiana; acting executive postmaster in Sac- ramento, California; and a city delivery specialist at the Postal Service Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
“It’s an honor and a priv- ilege to serve the citizens of Atlanta, a responsibility I plan to fulfill,” Meyer said in a state- ment. “Our goal is to provide a world-class customer experience that consists of friendly, reliable and prompt service.”
Omar R. Coleman was installed as Postmaster of Atlanta in May 2016, but in December, Meyer was serving as “acting postmaster.” A spokesman declined at the time to discuss administrative decisions.
Meyer’s installation ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in the Atlanta City Council Chamber, located at 55 Trinity Ave. SW. USPS Chief Operating Officer David E. Williams will administer the oath of office.
