FRIDAY Deep Purple and Judas Priest

Prepare for a night of monstrous rock when these two veterans turn the volume to 11. Deep Purple released its 20th studio album, “Infinite,” last year and is touring with three members of its classic ’70s days – singer Ian Gillan, bassist Roger Glover and drummer Ian Paice – along with guitarist Steve Morse and keyboardist Don Airey. Judas Priest, meanwhile, unleashed “Firepower” in March. They’re touring lineup includes guitarist Andy Sneap subbing for Glenn Tipton, who recently announced a battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

7 p.m. Sept. 14. $30-$125. Verizon Amphitheatre at Encore Park, 2200 Encore Parkway, Alpharetta. 1-800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com.

SATURDAY 4U: A Symphonic Celebration of Prince

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will help present the catalog of the funk-pop master along with a band and vocalists selected by longtime musician and Prince scholar, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots. Quest won’t perform at the show, but, with the approval of Prince’s estate, curated this 36-date tour, which kicked off earlier this month.

8 p.m. Sept. 15. $29-$99. Verizon Amphitheatre at Encore Park, 2200 Encore Parkway, Alpharetta. 1-800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com.

MONDAY Shaggy and Sting

The unlikely duo debuted their collaboration at the Grammy Awards in January, and starting today, are taking their musical bromance on the road. The pair, which released the island-flavored “44/876” this spring, intends to play selections from the new album, as well as collaborate on each other’s hits, such as “Every Breath You Take,” “Englishman in New York,” “Mr. Boombastic” and “It Wasn’t Me.”

8 p.m. Sept. 17. $60$127.50. Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St., Atlanta. 1-800745-3000, livenation.com.

THURSDAY Niall Horan

It’s been almost exactly a year since the Irish babyface of One Direction announced this tour, so his Atlanta fans are understandably clamoring for the show to go on already. But his “Flicker” world tour —named for his debut album—has actually been canvassing the U.K., Australia, Asia and Latin America since March and will be in its final trio of shows by the Atlanta performance. In a twist similar to former 1D-mate Harry Styles tapping Kacey Musgraves as a tour opener, Horan has enlisted searing country darling Maren Morris to share his bill.

7 p.m. Sept. 20. $29.50$209. Verizon Amphitheatre at Encore Park, 2200 Encore Parkway, Alpharetta. 1-800-7453000, ticketmaster.com. For more music news, concert reviews and interviews, visit the Atlanta Music Scene at AJC.com.
