Bulldogs muscle up to No. 2 in AP poll; Missouri on deck

Georgia may be short key players, will face standout quarterbac­k.

Georgia jumped over Clemson for the No. 2 spot in the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll released Sunday.

The move comes after Georgia defeated Middle Tennessee State 49-7 on Saturday. The Bulldogs are No. 3 in the coaches poll.

Alabama remains at No. 1 overall, followed in the top five by Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma. The SEC has four teams in the top 10 with LSU at No. 6 and Auburn at No. 9.

Georgia next plays at Missouri on Saturday, and enters with week with a couple of key players with questionab­le status.

Bulldogs tailback D’Andre Swift didn’t touch the football after the first two drives Saturday and has reportedly is dealing with a groin injury.

Receiver Terry Godwin, the leading returning receiver from last season, limped into the locker room with ice wrapped around his lower leg and didn’t play in the second half.

Coach Kirby Smart said God-

Missouri features quarterbac­k Drew Lock, who led the NCAA with 44 touchdown passes last season, including four in a 53-28 loss at Sanford Stadium.

So far this season, Lock ranks 10th in the nation in pass efficiency rating (194.4), ahead of Bulldogs starting quarterbac­k Jake Fromm, who is 14th (189.4).

Lock is 52 of70 passing for 687 yards with eight touchdowns for the Tigers, who won 40-37 at Purdue on Saturday.
