We chatted recently via email with Atlanta native Mike Render, better known as rapper Killer Mike of the duo Run the Jewels. Besides being a Grammy Award winner, he’s a political activist, entrepreneur and a newly minted member of the High Museum of Art’s board of directors.
Favorite place for breakfast:

They offer real Southern breakfast, and it’s in the heart of southwest Atlanta. I eat there and fellowship with my elders, and with the community. I meet with the Rev. Albert E. Love and C.T. Martin, and I get my grassroots info. I love their pancakes, eggs and beef links with cheese grits.
Favorite place for a cup of coffee:

I am not a coffee drinker, but when I drink coffee, I drink it from Cafe + Velo. It’s on Edgewood, right up the street from my barber shop, the SWAG Shop. Their coffee tastes like hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is the bomb as well.

It’s a three-way tie. If I’m on the Eastside of Atlanta, Ann’s Snack Bar. They have the best burgers in the world. If I’m intown, I like Sweet Auburn Seafood. Their service is always on par and their food and music is great. If I’m on the Westside, I like Milk and Honey. I love their turkey meatloaf, and I appreciate their service.
Favorite place for happy hour:

My favorite place for happy hour is the Blue Flame Lounge, which is a strip club. I typically have lemon pepper wings, with whiskey and Sprite on ice.
Favorite place for dinner:

They’re some of the top steak restaurants in the world.

That place will never let you down! I have crab leg buckets and lobster tails. They have great food, with a Margaritaville vibe. The only thing missing is the ocean.
