Seattle linebacker Kendricks banned indefinitely by NFL

-

The NFL has suspended Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks indefinitely after he pleaded guilty last month to federal insider trading charges.

League spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed the suspension under the personal conduct policy Tuesday. Kendricks’ suspension had been anticipated since his guilty plea in early September. It was just a matter of when the league would decide to act.

Seattle signed Kendricks prior to Week 2 because of a need at linebacker with K.J. Wright out following knee surgery. Kendricks has started two of the three games he’s played with Seattle and had sacks in each of the past two games.

Federal prosecutors said Kendricks used tips from an acquaintance to make about $1.2 million in illegal profits on four major trading deals.

Kendricks is not expected to be sentenced until January.

Browns: Placed starting cornerback Terrance Mitchell on injured reserve with a broken right wrist. Mitchell got hurt in the second quarter of Sunday’s 45-42 loss at Oakland. He underwent surgery Monday, when coach Hue Jackson said he didn’t think Mitchell’s injury was season-ending. The team can designate two players to return from injured reserve after six weeks.

To replace Mitchell, the Browns signed Jeremiah McKinnon from their practice squad. McKinnon is in his first NFL season out of Florida International.

Jackson said either E.J. Gaines or T.J. Carrie will replace Mitchell as a starter.

Dolphins: Released defensive tackle Jordan Phillips in the wake of his angry outburst on the sideline after he came out of a lopsided loss at New England.

“Free at last free at last,” Phillips wrote on Instagram. “Good luck to my brothers on the team. I’ll miss ya’ll, but I couldn’t be happier to be out of there . ... Sometimes you got to put your future in your own hands and live with it.”

The Dolphins had the day off and didn’t discuss the reason for the move.

49ers: Three of San Francisco’s starting offensive linemen — left tackle Joe Staley, center Weston Richburg and right tackle Mike McGlinchey — suffered knee injuries during Sunday’s loss to the Chargers that leave them questionable for this week’s game against Arizona.

Falcons: Signed defensive tackle Michael Bennett in a move which could reflect concern with starter Grady Jarrett, who left the final drive of the Falcons’ loss to the Bengals on Sunday with an ankle injury.

Late Monday

Chiefs 27, (at) Broncos 23: Patrick Mahomes is athletic, agile — and ambidextrous, apparently. Thanks in part to a nifty left-handed throw as he was about to get sacked by Von Miller at midfield on the game-winning drive, the right-handed Mahomes rallied unbeaten Kansas City past Denver.

By overcoming a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit, the Chiefs (4-0) took a twogame lead over the Broncos (2-2), their AFC West rivals whom they’ve now beaten six straight times.

Down 23-13, Mahomes directed a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ate up more than six minutes and culminated with a 2-yard TD toss to tight end Travis Kelce.

After a three-and-out by Denver, Mahomes added a 60-yard TD drive, handing off to Kareem Hunt for the 4-yard score with 1:39 remaining. On the drive, Mahomes was getting dragged down by Miller on third-and-5 at midfield when he shifted the ball to his left hand and threw it to Tyreek Hill a yard past the first-down marker at the Broncos 49.

“I didn’t know he threw it with his left hand,” marveled Miller. “He’s a great quarterback.”
