House hopefuls to debate

With State Rep. Brad Raffensper­ger (R-Johns Creek) running to be Georgia’s Secretary of State, a portion of north Fulton County will get a new representa­tive in the Georgia General Assembly.

Running for the open seat are Democrat Angelika Kausche and Republican Kelly Stewart. Today, voters will get the chance to hear from both of them.

The candidates will participat­e in a debate at Northview High School hosted by Student Leadership Johns Creek members. The debate will begin at 7 p.m. today in the high school’s auditorium at 10625 Parsons Road.

Before the 90-minute debate, candidates will do a meet-andgreet for 30 minutes. The event is free and open to the public.

Kausche grew up in Germany and moved to the U.S. more than two decades ago. She has master’s degrees, in business administra­tion and organizati­onal communicat­ion, and was a professor at colleges in Michigan and North Carolina, according to her website. Her top priorities are p ublic education, securing affordable college education and keeping learning environmen­ts safe.

Stewart is a former Johns Creek City Council member and was also the city’s mayor pro tem. She has served on the board of directors for the Georgia Municipal Associatio­n and was appointed to serve on the board of directors and school board for the Department of Juvenile Justice. Stewart has a master’s degree in city planning from Georgia Tech, a bachelor’s degree in public administra­tion from Brenau University and an associate’s degree in psychology from Gainesvill­e State. According to her website, she wants to work on freezing property taxes, recreating Milton County and defunding sanctuary cities and counties.
