Injured Marshall ‘doesn’t look good’ for Saturday

- By Chris Starrs For the AJC

The list of walking wounded for No. 2 Georgia continues to increase.

On Tuesday afternoon, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart confirmed that defensive end David Marshall suffered an injured left foot in this past Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt and might not be available for Saturday’s game at No. 13 LSU.

“We don’t know the severity of it or the length of time he’ll be out,” Smart said. “It doesn’t look good for this game, but we’re still trying to find out more. It happened in the game, but we weren’t aware of it, and it didn’t start bothering him until later.”

Marshall has recorded six tackles, including one for loss, and one pass breakup

this season. In addition, defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt was seen at practice working out on the sidelines, and defensive tackle DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle wasn’t seen at all. Wyatt has played in five games and has six tack- les this season.

“Devonte is rehabbing hard and might be able to go,” Smart said. “He was run- ning during practice and has been running for two days. DaQuan is out right now.”

Spread it out, run it in: Smart noted that while the LSU offense has main- tained its tradition of smashmouth football, the Tigers have added spread elements.

LSU ranks ninth in the SEC in total offense (392 yards per game), eighth in rushing offense (190 yards per game) and ninth in pass offense (202 yards per game).

“Obviously they’re a little bit different now,” Smart said. “They have some signs of being the old, really physical LSU — come downhill, hit you right in the mouth. They run power, counter, lead. They do all the traditional fullback offense. But they also have the spread elements, and I think their quarterback ( Joe Burrow) does a tremendous job with that.”

The Tigers are led on the ground by Nick Brossette, who averages a little less than 100 yards per game, averages nearly 5 yards per carry and has scored eight rushing touchdowns.
