Indian restaurant fails check

- By Pamela Miller For the AJC

An Indian restaurant in Gwinnett County failed a recent health inspection. Anjappar Indian Restaurant in Suwanee scored 37/U on Oct. 25. A previous score was 100/A on March 29.

According to the report, the person in charge wasn’t properly trained in food safety management.

Other violations included:

■ An employee began working without washing hands before engaging in food prep.

■ An employee was prepping cheese and touched garnishes with bare hands. Code dictates that there is no bare hand contact with ready-to-eat foods.

■ Improper labeling of some foods. (Raw goat was in packaging labeled “inspected by Australia” and its source could not be determined. Raw whole shell crabs were stored in a container with no labeling and and unknown source.)

■ Raw chicken stored above yogurt and vegetables and other ready-to-eat foods in a walk in cooler.

■ Sanitizer bucket had no measurable amount of sanitizer.

■ Dining tables were not being sanitized.

■ Some frozen foods were stored at temperatures greater than 41 degrees.

■ Hot foods were held at temperatures lower than 135 degrees.

Most restaurants with failed scores are reinspected within 10 days.
