Cobb teen indicted on DUI homicide

Friend’s fall from SUV early on July 5 led to injuries, death.

A Cobb County jury has formally charged a teen with the death of her friend who fell out of an SUV.

Abigail Cook was indicted last week on a count of first-degree vehicular homicide, according to Cobb court records.

Alyssa Prindle, 18, died three weeks after falling out of an SUV that Cook was driving early July 5. S he had been in a medically induced coma after the fall.

Cook was 17 when, according to investigators in a warrant, she “admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day and smelled of an alcoholic beverage.”

Police said that Cook got a bottle of raspberry vodka for a group of fellow minors.

Cook was driving a 2001 Hyundai Sante Fe on Johnson Ferry Road near Sewell Mill Road about 2 a.m., the warrant said.

Prindle was hanging out the left rear window “yelling and screaming” when she fell out and hit the pavement, police previously said.

Prindle had just graduated Pope High School and planned to attend Georgia Southern University.

A GoFundMe campaign that raised more than $14,000 to cover Prindle’s medical expenses posted at the time of her death: “Her body just couldn’t keep going. There were too many injuries, and the doctors just couldn’t do anything else for her.”

Cook was re-arrested on the new homicide charge after Prindle died. She bonded out, but the court ordered she wear an ankle monitor.

Cook’s next court hearing was not listed online.
