The co-owner of a Gwinnett County bar was among two people killed early Saturday when gunshots were fired outside the business, police said.

James Kim, 47, was believed to be “caught in the crossfire” outside the Prime Bar and Grill on Day Drive near Duluth, Gwinnett police Detective Sam Flynn said in a statement.

The other victim was identified as 26-year-old Malik Jett, according to Flynn.

“It is unclear at this time to what extent Jett was involved in the altercation” that led to the shooting, Flynn said.

Gwinnett police said Sunday morning that 23-year-old Samuel Songsy is wanted in relation to the shooting. In a statement, officials said a warrant has been obtained for aggravated assault, and authorities want to question Songsy about the incident.

The warrant states that Songsy assaulted Jett with a handgun “by pointing the handgun at the victim and striking the victim in the head with the handgun,” according to Channel 2 Action News.

Gwinnett County jail records show that in March, Songsy was arrested in Norcross on a charge of DUI, as well as multiple alleged traffic offenses.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact police.

Police responded about 2:30 a.m. to a report of shots fired.

“It appears that the shooting was part of an altercation at the bar and occurred on the sidewalk and in the parking lot outside,” Flynn said.

Police told Channel 2 that they have been called to the location before.

“There’s an extended history of fights and similar incidents that you would expect at a bar at this location,” Flynn said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 770-513-5300.
