ISAACS, Malcolm Leslie

-

Malcolm Leslie Isaacs, of blessed memory, 87, of Atlanta, Georgia, died Thursday, November 15, 2018. Born November 30, 1930 in Sunderland, England, he was the eldest son of Annie (Wilder) and Cash Isaacs and brother to Arnold. Malcolm sat for and passed the Oxford school certificate to attend college for teaching in Geography, but at the invitation of Otto Kaufman, instead chose to emigrate to the United States of America aboard the Marine Shark at the age of 18 in August of 1949 and arrived in New York. His destination was Detroit, Michigan, where he stayed with Otto and Mina Kaufman. He found work in Winkleman’s, a women’s department store, and soon after met Ilene Rotenberg. Six months later, they were married on November 4, 1951. Thereafter, he continued to garner professional success, where he owned and operated a jewelry store in Clio, Michigan, and later he moved into Ilene’s family business of Peerless Mattress Company, working his way up to a managerial position, where he knew every item number by memory. He was active in the Jewish community which continued to be important to Malcolm throughout his life; and he was President of the Jewish Federation in Flint, Michigan. He was also a leader in his community in Pompano Beach, Florida where he and Ilene moved in 1987; he served as President of his homeowners association for 20 years. He & Ilene moved to Atlanta in 2016 to be closer to his children & grandchildren. Malcolm was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Signal Corps after becoming an American citizen. Malcolm could be counted on to always be available for his family and friends, and was also known as the family “Peacemaker.” He did it with humor and intelligence. He took the responsibility of caring for his family seriously. No matter how old they got, his daughters and grandchildren could always go to him for advice and help, and he never let them down. His family found comfort in his predictability, from his daily routine consisting of his morning walk to his lunch of a Granny Smith apple and peanut butter which was completed by half of a Costco muffin or coffee cake. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ilene Isaacs. He leaves behind his daughters: Pamela Isaacs, Mimi Faran (David Schabb), and Victoria Pasmanick (Robert). He was a loving grandfather to Greer Mendel (Jarrod), Ariel Faran (Hagar), Kelley Pasmanick, Annie Mirochnik (Brian), Yeshai Faran, and Shimree Ben Khalifa (Paul). He was great-grandfather to Jack Mendel, Meyer Mirochnik, and Amelie Mendel. He is also survived by Arnold Isaacs (Shirley).
