Photography nonprofit receives $40,000 grant

Group’s October festival comprised of over 100 events.

An Atlanta photography nonprofit is getting its Christmas wishes fulfilled early after receiving a $40,000 grant.

Atlanta Celebrates Photography, which turns 20 this year, was awarded the grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta. The grant will go toward the group’s general operating costs.

Mary Stanley, ACP’s board president, said the organization is “thrilled to be recognized ... with this generous grant.”

“ACP provides yearlong programming to educate and engage audiences in the Atlanta community and this grant will allow us to create even more opportunities to celebrate photography in 2019,” Stanley said in a statement.

The nonprofit also runs the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival, an annual community-oriented photo festival with more than 100 events across the Atlanta area during October. The festival includes lectures, workshops, screenings and parties. Speakers have included photographer Annie Leibovitz, former White House photographer Pete Souza and filmmaker John Waters, a press release said.

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta’s grant program provides funding to support nonprofits throughout the 23-county metropolitan area of Atlanta. ACP’s grant comes from the Foundation’s Common Good Fund, Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund and Atlanta AIDS fund.
