Lyft recognizes 7 hottest destinations in Atlanta
Back in olden times, someone hailing a ride would hop in and yell out their destination, a location likely to be undocumented except for in the deep recesses of the driver and passenger’s minds.
Today, many drivers punch the given address into a smartphone, ultimately compiling a bunch of data that ride-sharing giants like Lyft can use to dole out annual awards.
What a time to be alive. The fourth iteration of the annual Lyftie Awards, a program that recognizes the most popular destinations in cities across the coun- try, were announced this week for 45 markets, Atlanta included.
“The Lyfties are a way for us to recognize the places that truly make Atlanta unique and to say thank you for sharing a ride with us to some of the city’s best spots,” Sam Bond, general manager of Lyft southeast, said in a statement.
The winners for the 2018 Lyftie Awards in Atlanta are:
■ Most popular bar: Dark Horse Tavern, which makes a comeback after winning in 2016 but losing out to Orms- by’s on Atlanta’s Westside last year.
■ Most visited fitness studio/gym: L.A. Fitness*
■ Most popular concert venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium
■ Most visited restaurant for brunch: Atlanta Breakfast Club
■ Most visited late-night restaurant: Waffle House*
■ Most visited late-night neighborhood: Buckhead
■ Only in Atlanta: Ponce City Market. This category goes to the most popular destination that can only be found in each market. The Battery Atlanta won last year; in 2016, it went to Georgia Aquarium, while Ponce City Market won for “Trending Destination.”
*These were the most pop- ular destinations in those categories, not specific locations.
