Office tower proposed
On the second Tuesday of each month, the Midtown Development Review Committee holds a public meeting — without a public comment period — to hear area development proposals.
Proposals aren’t required to be approved by the DRC before going to city planners, but getting clearance before approaching the city is considered neighborly and can help.
One new application was scheduled to be presented at Tuesday’s meeting: a proposal for an office tower at 650 West Peachtree St.
The proposal is for a new 22-story glass office tower on a site that takes up three quarters of the city block bordered by West Peachtree Street, Third Street, Spring Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue.
Plans call for 856,000 square feet of office, 141,000 square feet of other uses (including technology center and daycare facility) and a 3,000-square-foot cafe. It is to include a partially buried, seven-story parking deck with about 2,000 spaces.
The applicants are John McColl, Cousins; Emmy Montanye, Kimley-Horn; Rodney Nelson, Pickard Chilton; and Jay Suever, HKS.
The DRC committee, appointed jointly by the city of Atlanta and Midtown Alliance, is made up of 10 people who represent residents, property and business owners, institutions, neighborhood associations and MARTA.
Applicants must submit project information a week in advance to be placed on the agenda.
