County Water Authority earns top awards

Clayton County Water Authority staff earned several top awards during the Georgia Associatio­n of Water Profession­als Fall Conference held in Dalton in November, according to a press release.

CCWA’s Northeast Water Reclamatio­n Facility, located in Rex, earned the Water Environmen­t Federation’s George W. Burke Safety Award. The W.B. Casey Water Resource Recovery Facility’s Wastewater Laboratory staff earned the Laboratory Quality Assurance at a Municipal Wastewater Laboratory Award for the Greater than 20 million gallons per day category.

Conveyance maintenanc­e staff brought home its 4rd Collection System Platinum Award. Waste- water collection (or conveyance) system programs focus on maintenanc­e of the sewer lines that collect sewage from homes and businesses and safely transport it through a network of pipes to the treatment plants.

Distributi­on maintenanc­estaff brought home its 4rd Distributi­on System Gold Award. Water distributi­on system programs focus on maintenanc­e of the water lines that deliver potable water from CCWA’s system to homes and businesses. commission­er Reid Bowman with a bronze marker.

Members of Bowman’s family were on hand for the event along with friends, county officials, present and former commission­ers and public safety personnel.

Bowman, who died in June, served two terms as commission­er for that area after being elected in 2006 and 2010.

The marker denotes him as “a dedicated public servant who served the citizens of Henry County by providing exceptiona­l leadership and a powerful voice to advocate for the needs of citizens during his eight-year tenure. ... Through his commitment as a public official, Commission­er Bowman leaves a legacy of faith, love and service to the citizens of Henry County.”
