QB Williams staying at Miami
A day after recruiting website 247Sports.com reported Hurricanes quarterback Jarren Williams was planning to transfer, Williams’ father told the site his son intends to stay at Miami after all.
Williams, from Lawrenceville, also took to social media late Thursday night to post a message that read, “When it comes down to it, I’ll always choose my brothers.”
The quarterback, who was on the practice field with the Hurricanes when 247Sports published its initial report Wednesday, was spotted speaking to Hurricanes quarterbacks coach Jon Richt on the field for approximately 20 minutes after Miami finished its workout.
“Coach Mark Richt and coach Jon Richt convinced Jarren to stay,” Williams’ father, Anthony Williams, told the website. “They convinced him to stay by laying out a path he’ll have an opportunity to compete and play in the 2019 season.”
■ No. 8 Michigan will be short-handed against No. 10 Florida in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta — just not at quarterback. Shea Patterson is returning for his senior season at Michigan instead of entering the NFL draft.
The junior was voted Michigan’s offensive player of the year after transferring from Ole Miss and successfully appealing to the NCAA to play this season. He completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,364 yards with 21 TDs and five interceptions.
Patterson won’t have the team’s leading rusher against the Gators on Dec. 29 in the Peach Bowl, and the defense will be without at least two of its top players.
Senior running back Karan Higdon announced Thursday he is skipping the bowl game to focus on preparing for the NFL. Junior linebacker Devin Bush and defensive end Rashan Gary are also entering the draft and won’t play against Florida. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■
