Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced the pending resignation of her chief of staff on Wednesday after she served only a year in her position.

A city news release said that Marva Lewis, who managed Bottoms’ 2017 mayoral campaign, is returning to the private sector.

The news release did not identify any specific job for which Lewis is leaving. Bottoms in a statement said Lewis had intended to serve one year when she accepted the job.

“Marva Lewis has been and remains a trusted advisor. Her leadership guided our Administration through a successful first year and I am excited to see what her future holds,” said Bottoms.

Lewis will remain in her role through March to help with the Super Bowl and ensure a smooth transition for the person who will replace her, according to the news release.

Lewis is one of Bottoms’ most senior advisers. She oversaw the mayor’s top personnel as well as policy and legislative matters.

Before working for Bottoms, Lewis worked for Cousins Properties and Equifax.

“I will forever treasure my time on the campaign, during the mayoral transition, and ultimately as Chief of Staff of this great city,” Lewis said in a statement. “I look forward to the new opportunities that the new year will bring.”
