Wings spot fails probe

- By Pamela Miller For the AJC

An Atlanta wings spot failed a recent inspection. ATL Wings Your Way on Empire Boulevard scored 56/U on Jan. 4. Previous scores were 88/B on June 4, 2018 and 85/B on July 10, 2017.

According to the report, the facility’s menu does not have grilled foods listed, however, grilled food is offered for sale. There was a grill stored outside the rear door of the facility without any overhead protection. The inspector noted that grill protection is required in order to continue grilling.

Other violations included:

■ Raw chicken was stored above produce in a cooler and open packages of corn and raw bacon were stored together in a freezer.

■ Stored containers of food, wrapped in foil, were inside the deep freezer. The foil was torn and the contents were exposed to the ice falling inside the food in the pan.

■ Dishes were improperly washed. The three-step method (wash-rinse-sanitize) must be used.

■ Multiple cold food items were stored at temperatures greater than the 41 degrees.

■ Pre-cooked wings were stored in a covered plastic container on a counter and registered at 100 degrees. Food that is stored hot must be stored on a heat source to maintain the food at least 135 degrees or higher.

■ Workers were not wearing hair restraints.

■ The produce container in the cooler was dirty (old onion skins), the freezer on the same unit was soiled on the bottom shelf, the deep freezer had dirty lids.

Because of the failing score, the facility must schedule an intervention hearing prior to the reinspection that is scheduled for Jan. 14.
