Q&A on the News

-

Q: I really enjoyed WSBTV’s recent 70 years program. I’ve been in Atlanta for the last 39-plus years, so I’ve witnessed a lot of what was chronicled in that show. Why was the engineering marvel that replaced the original white columns omitted? JIM DORIN, STONE MOUNTAIN

A: The “70 Ye a r s of WSB-TV” program touched on the digital and engineering upgrades that occurred and mentioned that the hosts were standing by the white columns that are outside WSB-TV’s current headquarters. Laura Reed, senior executive producer in WSB-TV Channel 2’s local programming department and producer of the show, told Q&A on the News that the program was not trying to omit it, but focused on the more distant past.

Q: Is it true that Kris Kristofferson was in the National Guard? I remember that he landed his helicopter on Johnny Cash’s yard to promote the song “Sunday Morning Coming Down.” EDDIE WEBSTER, DOUGLASVILLE A: Yes, the singer and song- writer was in the National Guard, according to past stories.

“Though Kristofferson infamously worked as a jan- itor at Columbia Studios, where he met Johnny Cash, the Rhodes scholar from a military family was also a helicopter pilot, both in the National Guard and for a commercial firm,” according to RollingStone.com.

Military.com notes that he joined the Army in 1960 and “became a helicopter pilot after completing Ranger School and eventually worked his way to the rank of captain.”
