La.-Lafayette edges Georgia State

Jakeenan Gant had 23 points as host Louisiana-Lafayette narrowly beat Georgia State 76-72 on Friday night.

Cedric Russell had 14 points for Louisiana-La- fayette (14-10, 5-6 Sun Belt Conference). Trajan Wesley added 10 points. Marcus Stroman had seven assists and six rebounds for host Louisiana-Lafayette.

Devin Mitchell had 21 points for the Panthers (168, 7-4). D’Marcus Simonds added 19 points and six rebound s . Nelson Phil- lips had 14 points and six rebounds.

The Ragin’ Cajuns evened the season series against the Panthers with the win. Georgia State defeated Louisiana-Lafayette 89-76 on Jan. 10.

(At) Louisiana-Monroe 88, Georgia Southern 79: Daishon Smith had 38 points as Louisiana-Monroe beat Georgia Southern on Friday night.

Smith hit 13 of 15 foul shots. Travis Munnings had 17 points for Louisiana-Monroe (13-10, 6-5 Sun Belt). Michael Ertel added 15 points. JD Williams had 10 points for the home team.

Tookie Brown had 28 points for the Eagles (14-10, 6-5). Quan Jackson added 20 points. Simeon Carter had 10 points.

(At) Morehouse 70, Clark Atlanta 67: Omar Alston, a 6-foot-6 senior, had 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Maroon Tigers (18-3, 12-3 SIAC) past Clark Atlanta on Saturday.

Chibueze Ebinum added 15 points for Morehouse.

Shelvick Henry was the top scorer for the Panthers (11-11, 8-7) with 17 points. Romaine Thomas had 13 rebounds.

Morehouse faces Claflin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Forbes Arena. Next for Clark Atlanta is a home game at 4 p.m. Saturday against Benedict.

ACC

(At) Syracuse 67, Boston College 56: Tyus Battle scored 21 points, including 15 in the second half, Buddy Boeheim hit for a career-high 16, and Syracuse withstood a late Boston College rally.

Oshae Brissett chipped in with 12 for Syracuse (17-7, 8-3 ACC), which rebounded from an 18-point home loss Tuesday against No. 22 Florida State. Attendance was announced as 26,011 — the largest in Division I this season.

Ky Bowman, who sat out the first 5:03 of the game due to a violation of team rules, led the Eagles (11-11, 2-8) with 21 points.

North Carolina State 79, (at) Pittsburgh 76: C.J. Bryce scored 21 points, including three free throws in the final 10 seconds, as North Carolina State edged Pittsburgh to snap a three- game losing streak.

Bryce went to the line with the Wolfpack (17-7, 5-7 ACC) holding onto a one- point lead and 9.9 seconds left. He calmly drained both free throws in front of the blacked-out T-shirt student section. N.C. State opted to foul ahead by three.

Pitt’s Sidy N’Dir made just one of two with 7 seconds remaining. Bryce grabbed his seventh and final rebound and made one of two with 5.5 seconds left. N’Dir collected the rebound and weaved his way through traffic but his off-balance 3-pointer from outside the top of the key was left as time expired.

SEC

(At) South Carolina 77,

nsas 65: Freshman A.J. Lawson scored 24 points, and fellow freshman Keyshawn Bryant added 17 as South Carolina beat Arkansas.

The Gamecocks (12-11, 7-3 SEC) trailed by 13 with 15:30 to go when the talented duo took over.

Lawson hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Bryant had slashing drives. And when Lawson found Bryant soaring for an alley-oop, the Gamecocks were up 59-54 with 8:45 left

Arkansas (14-9, 5-5) had one last run, taking a 61-59 lead with six minutes left. But Lawson, Bryant and senior Chris Silva helped South Carolina end the game on an 18-4 run. The Gamecocks made 16 of their last 22 shots and made 10 of 15 3-pointers.
