County, Kennesaw to build $4.5M rec center

Cobb County Government will transfer $4,513,985 to Kennesaw for a new recreation center.

The Kennesaw City Council approved the agreement 5-0 on Feb. 4.

Cobb will transfer Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds to the city for the funding, designing, engineerin­g, constructi­ng and furnishing of the new recreation center that is listed in the 2016 SPLOST project list.

The center will be in Adams Park, 2753 Watts Drive near U.S. 41/Cobb Parkway, a 33-acre park.

Presently, Adams Park includes a community center building, six lighted baseball fields, four lighted softball fields, a lighted soccer field, two lighted tennis courts, a play ground, picnic pavilions and shelters, a half-mile concrete trail, indoor and outdoor batting cages, concession buildings, a Scout hut building and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
