A large arsenal of guns and ammunition was removed Wednesday from the home of a dentist who police say caused an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team in Brookhaven.

Officers found George Frank Roach, 48, in the house on Osborne Road shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, more than 10 hours after Brookhaven police went to the home to serve a search-and-ar- rest warrant on a charge of domestic violence. Roach, a dentist with a practice in Norcross, allegedly shot at a woman living in his home, Channel 2 Ac t ion News reported. He’s facing aggravated assault, obstruction and drug charges, according to the news station.

He is expected to be booked in the DeKalb County Jail after being treated at the hospital.

Investigators removed boxes of ammunition and at least a dozen guns from Roach’s home Wednesday.

One of Roach’s friends told Channel 2 Action News that the guns are legally owned and used for hog-hunting trips in South Georgia.

A SWAT team was called to the house after Roach refused to come outside and officers worried that he was armed, police said. At one point, officers fired flash bangs at the home and sent a robot in to search room by room.

Police said they later found Roach hiding in the house.

“He did not surrender,” Maj. Brandon Gurley said at the scene Wednesday. “There was a struggle, but he is OK and in custody.”

Neighbors were told to shelter in place during the SWAT situation.
