Wage hike:

Illinois Democrats voted to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2025, a move that will give Gov. J.B. Pritzker an early political victory, grant pay raises to workers and upset businesses across the state.

Weight gain:

A 4-pound-weight gain over the past year has put President Donald Trump over the line into obesity, according to updated medical informatio­n released by the White House. Dr. Sean P. Conley, his physician, deemed Trump’s health overall very good, but Politico noted that his weight of 243 — up 4 pounds from last year’s 239 — puts him over the line into obesity.

Voting mistake:

In a letter to all the members of the Texas Legislatur­e that was made public, Secretary of State David Whitley admitted that more care should have been given to producing an accurate list before revealing last month that his office had flagged 95,000 registered voters as possible non-U.S. citizens. Whitley also apologized for confusion created by his Jan. 25 announceme­nt and promised to take steps to ensure “a more accurate and efficient” process for identifyin­g potential noncitizen voters in the future.

Fire fine:

Environmen­talists say Indonesian plantation companies fined for burning huge areas of land since 2009 have failed to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in penalties meant to hold them accountabl­e for actions that took a devastatin­g environmen­tal and human toll.

Suspects:

Chicago Police say the two men being questioned in the attack on“Empire”actor Jussie Smollett are considered suspects. Department spokesman said that the men are in custody and have been arrested based on probable cause that they may have been involved in a crime.
